ANZ Bank, 553-555 George St, Sydney, NSWPhotographs: List: Register of the National Estate Class: Historic Legal Status: Registered (21/10/1980) Place ID: 2201 Place File No: 1/12/036/0395 Statement of Significance: A fine late Victorian facade that remains in original condition. Built 1885 as the southern Sydney branch of the Bank of Australasia. Description: A two storey, corner bank built in 1885. The facade is designed in Victorian Italianate style using salmon coloured face bricks with sandstone base, string courses and decorations to the curved corner and deep roof parapet. Detailing is of the highest quality as revealed in the meticulous brickwork and curved corner doors and windows. Condition and Integrity: The exterior is intact but the interior was renovated in the twentieth century manner in 1973. Location: 553-555 George Street and 90 Liverpool Street, Sydney. |
