Of the 750 local men who enlisted during the
First World War, 150 died and many more were wounded. All men who served
are listed on the War Memorial, which is topped by an angel of peace
holding a shield bearing the legend ‘Their name liveth for evermore’. It was sculpted by Gilbert Doble. |
