On a steep site on the Barrenjoey Peninsula at Clareville, the impressive and welcoming Reeves House takes in splendid views of Pittwater West and will nestle in resurrected forest as it develops.

This present and future environment generated the form of the house, the twisted parasol of its roof, the elevated north-facing bathroom and bedroom, the continuous kitchen and living areas below, and the spacious decks.
The orientation and the roof form admit winter sun, and provide summer shade. Concrete block blade walls at the back hold the main stair circulation beneath a light-emitting polycarbonate roof.
The front of the house is a lightly framed, intelligently detailed, extensively glazed pavilion. Below are two other levels, a more enclosed bedroom area with west-facing balcony above garaging. It is a house of rational program yet poetic.

The thermal mass of the southern blade walls maintain the heat in winter yet keep the house cool in summer. The north face opens up to the sun. North of the main blade is the zone of human activity , the sunny side, the lively side.
The southern face in contrast is used to protect from cold southerly winds.

The freedom of living extends to sleeping, bathing and all other human activities.
A connection with the locality is encouraged thorugh both physical and visual interactions. They bring the house into being.

The brief: fluid, connected, timeless, simple, open, practical, tranquil, transparent. The experiences: warmth, breeze, smells, tastes, water, quiet, action, seclusion.

The (IDEA) Awards are set to become one of the focal points of the national design programme.

In the past (inside) has been awarded for its excellence in graphic design and the quality and originality of its approach to commissioned photographic work - we collaborate with the most progressive photographic artists and graphic designers to ensure that (inside) is leading the industry of design publication in the country.
